The Lagoon 42 charter Marmaris is a 12.8-metre sailing catamaran, built new by Lagoon in 2023 and berthed at Marina Albatros near Marmaris. She sleeps nine guests across five cabins and is offered with a skipper. The Lagoon 42 is among the most popular cruising catamarans afloat, and the reasons are practical: a level deck between the two hulls, wide and stable living space, a shoal draught for the shallow coves, and a rig light enough for a small crew to handle.

She measures 12.8 metres on deck with a beam of 7.7 metres and a draught of 1.25 metres. Five double cabins are set into the two hulls, each with its own head and shower, sleeping nine in comfort. The single-level main deck — galley, saloon and cockpit on one plane — is the Lagoon signature, and the tall vertical windows fill the interior with light while keeping the horizon in view. It is a layout built for sociable weeks afloat, with private quarters for every couple and one large shared space for meals and evenings at anchor.

Life aboard a Lagoon 42 happens outdoors. The aft cockpit sits level with the saloon and seats the whole crew around a solid table, shaded and open to the breeze. Forward, twin trampolines and a foredeck lounge catch the sun and the motion of the sea. Above, the flybridge carries the helm and a sociable seating area with the clearest views of the anchorage. Electric winches handle the mainsail, a bimini shades the wheel, and a tender on davits — with its own outboard — is ready for the run to a beach or a jetty.

Inside, pale surfaces and light timber keep the saloon bright, wrapped in Lagoon’s tall windows so the sea is never out of sight. A dining settee gathers the crew around a generous table, and the galley runs along the side with a gas cooker, an oven, a deep sink and a large fridge — enough to provision for a full week. A dedicated navigation station carries Raymarine instruments. Each of the five cabins is finished simply and calmly, with hull windows, reading lights, hanging stowage and an en-suite head.

Twin 57-horsepower diesels — 85 kW in total — give confident handling under power and an easy passage between anchorages. She carries 600 litres of fuel and 600 litres of fresh water, with a water maker aboard for longer stretches away from the dock. The hull is fibreglass and the rig a mainsail with electric winch assistance, so a modest crew can trim her comfortably. Built in 2023, she is a current-generation yacht, and her 1.25-metre draught opens shallow bays that keep monohulls offshore. She charters with a skipper aboard.

The waters around Marmaris hide some of the coast’s best tables — places you can reach only from the sea. From a Lagoon 42 charter in Marmaris you can anchor off a boat-in-only restaurant in a quiet inlet, take the tender to the jetty, and eat from a kitchen that works with the day’s catch and the produce of the hills behind. Grilled fish, garden mezze and figs to finish — a plate of the Aegean at its most honest. The catamaran’s stability makes the passage there and back a pleasure at any hour.

Marmaris opens onto a cruising ground of rare variety: the sheltered Gulf of Hisarönü to the west, the pine-clad Datça peninsula, and the Twelve Islands off Göcek a day’s sail east. A week aboard might take in the calm anchorages of Bozburun and Selimiye, the coves below the Datça hills, and a night at Ekincik before the run toward the Dalyan delta. The season is long and settled — warm from late spring into October — so there is time to move slowly and swim where the water runs clearest.
